Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.

Photo slot — Two mugs and one skillet on a picnic table. I will drop a picture in when I have one that is not a stock shot.

Two people do not need a restaurant

I pack a canister stove or a Jetboil, one pot that can fry and boil, two sporks, a knife, a small cutting board I often leave at home because I pre-chop. That is the kitchen.

A 17-inch griddle is fun. It is not required. For two, it is usually more iron than I want to wash.

I cook fewer things than I think I will

Breakfast is eggs or oats. Dinner is one pan: sausage and veg, or something I bagged at home. I do not pack three sauces and a spice library. Salt, pepper, oil in a squeeze bottle.

If I want coffee fast, the Jetboil earns the space. If I want to sauté, I want a real burner and a pan — PocketRocket plus the Trek pot, or a cheap two-burner if the picnic table is huge.

Dishes are the hidden pack item

A small sponge, a drop of soap, a collapsible basin if I am feeling civilized. I do not cook in the tent. Carbon monoxide is not a vibe.

Quick answers

Is this a complete packing list?

No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
