Car Camping vs Tent Camping for Beginners
I send most first-timers to a developed campground with a tent next to the car. Sleeping in the car is a different, valid trip.
Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.
Tent next to the car is the default first trip
Bathroom. Water. A pad I can walk to. I set up in daylight. That is tent camping as most families mean it.
Car camping in my notes means I might sleep in the vehicle: shades, a way to organize the cabin, a jump pack because I drained the battery charging phones. Both beat a walk-in site for trip one.
I pick based on weather and pride
Rain and a toddler: I want the car as a dry room. Perfect weather and I want the ritual: I pitch the tent. I do not need a van conversion to start.
Quick answers
Is this a complete packing list?
No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
