Do I Need an Ultralight Tent for Car Camping?
No. I use ultralight when the tent is on my back. For car camp I want easy poles and I do not cry about ounces.

Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.
Photo slot — A real trip photo goes here. I will drop a picture in when I have one that is not a stock shot.
Ounces matter on a trail. They do not matter in a trunk.
If I can drive to the pad, I want a tent I can stand up in ten minutes, with a full rainfly, that I am not afraid to let kids touch. Ultralight fabrics punish that.
I save the UL tent for nights I walk in. Mixing the two is how I poke holes in a $500 shelter while unloading a cooler.
Quick answers
Is this a complete packing list?
No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
