Solo Car Camping: The Short List I Take
When I camp alone I pack less food theater and more ‘if I twist an ankle.’ One chair. One stove. Someone knows where I am.
Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.
Solo is lighter and more serious at the same time
I tell someone the site. I pack a first aid kit I will actually open. I do not need four plates. I do want a headlamp, a backup light, and water I do not have to bargain for.
One chair. One stove. Food I can eat cold if the stove fails. A book or I sit there and listen. That is the trip.
I still take the boring car stuff
Jump pack or cables. I have killed a battery with a fridge and a phone. Solo plus a dead battery is a long walk.
Quick answers
Is this a complete packing list?
No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
