First Camping Trip as a Couple: What I Pack and What I Skip
I pack one kitchen, two headlamps, and a pad each. I do not pack a test of the relationship in the rain without a backup plan.
Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.
Two headlamps. I am not kidding.
Sharing a light is how we argue about the tent zipper. Two cheap lamps. One tent we practiced. Bags we can zip or a quilt we already like. A kitchen for two, not a griddle for twelve.
I pick a campground with a bathroom. Romance plus a shovel is an advanced class.
I keep an exit that is not dramatic
If it is miserable, we can leave. That is allowed. A first trip that ends early still counts as camping. A first trip that becomes a grudge does not.
Quick answers
Is this a complete packing list?
No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
