Cold Weather Car Camping Below 40°F
I spend money on the bag and the pad. I do not spend it on a cute chair. Below 40 I treat the rating honestly.

Field notes — I write these in first person, from how I actually pack. Photos go in when I have them.
Photo slot — A real trip photo goes here. I will drop a picture in when I have one that is not a stock shot.
This is where I spend
A cheap 40°F bag on a 35°F night is a miserable story. I go warmer than the forecast, I add a pad with real R-value, I keep a layer dry for bed.
A hot meal and a hot drink matter more than a new lantern color.
The car is a backup room
I can retreat to the vehicle if the tent loses. I do not run the engine to sleep. I do not use a tent heater. I stack insulation and I go to bed dry.
Quick answers
Is this a complete packing list?
No. This is what I actually do for this situation. Use a full checklist for the boring essentials, then add or subtract from this note.
